COFFEE DESIGN

The collaboration between Lavazza and the Adrià brothers began in 2002, when Lavazza launched the special Coffee Design trend, an innovation laboratory for the creation of unique recipes. The first success of the project was the surprising èspesso, the first solid coffee in history.

Like a group of alchemists, the teams from the Lavazza Training Centre and El Bulli de Adrià embarked on a process of sculpting flavour and format. It didn’t take long for Lavazza Coffee Design to become an established food design brand.

The tangible and the intangible found a worthy companion in the contents of that cup of espresso: liquid, solid, hot, cold, foam, iced or sorbet. The flavour of an espresso or cappuccino is enriched by surprising textures, difficult to distinguish but very easy to enjoy.

There are many values that Lavazza shares with great contemporary chefs such as Albert Adrià, and the constant quest for excellence and the desire to experiment are perfect allies in haute cuisine. Thanks to this association, coffee was officially introduced into the world of “haute cuisine”. From then on, it was possible to enjoy a Lavazza coffee at the end of an exquisite meal in the best restaurants in the world.

COOKING COFFEE, 2015

“Cooking Coffee. Albert Adrià for Lavazza” is a unique editorial project in its category, born from the complicity and passion for gastronomy that Lavazza and Albert Adrià share.

Produced in collaboration with Montagud Editores, the book contains 23 recipes prepared with Lavazza coffee as the main ingredient: 21 creations by Albert Adrià and two by the winners of the special prize for the best creative recipe in 2013 and 2014 at the annual Tazzina d’Oro Barista Championship.
“Cooking Coffee” is an appetising work that proposes not only to continue exploring the potential of coffee, but also to delve into the culture of coffee and the figure of the barista. “A barista should prepare and serve coffee as a chef does food in a good restaurant”.

LAVAZZA FLAGSHIP MILAN, 2017

In 2017, the first Lavazza Flagship Store was born, a store of over 200 square metres that opened its doors in one of Milan’s most beautiful squares, Piazza San Fedele, with the help of Albert Adrià, who advised on the design of the food offer.

The offer is divided into four large areas: a classic cafeteria, where you can enjoy an excellent coffee prepared to perfection; the fresh roasting area, where you can discover the secrets of beans and roasting; Coffee Design, where you can discover coffee in different ways thanks to the culinary creations of various chefs; and finally the area dedicated to the different ways of drinking coffee, from cold brew to pour-over and even mocha.
A 360° exploration of the world of coffee, from breakfast to aperitif.
